Welcome to USA - Horseranch in Mississippi

Horseranch in Mississippi

Gascon Horsemanship now offers the volunteer adventure of a lifetime! You can get the opportunity to volunteer at the 200-acre horse ranch (with an additional 800 acre to ride or hike on) and spend all day around our amazing horses. On the ranch, there is approximately 80 horses, plenty of dogs and other animals. The ranch is a fifth generation horse ranch where the Gascon family breeds, trains and sells USAs best Paso Fino horses. Michael Gascon is also an excellent trainer who takes horses of all different breeds, types and ages in for training.

Stay on a horseranch in Mississippi!

 Project fee from EUR 850

Come and enjoy the picturesque ranch, nestled among the rolling hills of beautiful southern Mississippi. The ranch is located 30 minutes from the Mexican gulf coast and approximately one hour from spicy New Orleans.

Michael Gascon works to improve the communication between horses and their owners so they can have a safe and loving relationship to each other. The training is based on natural horsemanship and methods build on the horse’s natural behavior. Michael also trains many young horses where the goal is to give the horse a good start in life and a good chance to be able to interact with humans in a safe and good way. Michael feel a great responsibility to help misunderstood and young horses to gain better communication and connection with their owners. That way he can help prevent that they are sold for the wrong reasons or end up in a bad place.

This is why Michael is also passionate to bring horses in for training. Many times, there is a misunderstanding between the owner and the horse where Michael can train the horse to be safe and well behaved, and then he coaches the owners to understand their horse!

Your Role

As a volunteer, you will be incorporated in the daily work on the ranch. You will be part of the team who makes sure that the horses are well taken care of, handled properly and stays healthy. In your daily routine you will also make sure that the facilities gets the required upkeep needed. You will be able to watch and learn how problem horses can be trained and rehabilitated to become safe and fun riding horses again.

Volunteer work means plenty of time around and together with the horses but this program is not a "riding camp". Many of the horses are in training either for different problems or to prepare for competitions and therefor only ridden by the trained staff on the ranch. However, there are some horses that are used for the guests and you will get to go on a weekly trail ride. In addition to that, you can choose to add more horseback riding during your stay in exchange for a smaller fee.

Your daily work on the Gascon Horsemanship ranch:

The Project’s Mission

Operating a successful ranch with over 80 horses requires long hours and commitment. The project's mission is to make sure all the horses are well taken care of, gets the proper care they need and a little extra! Besides this, it is also important that the ranch and its facilities represent the level that we are striving to maintain. The project also aims to give you as a volunteer increased knowledge about the care of a ranch, horse training and horse care as well as to give you an experience you will not forget!

The Mississippi project is operated in collaboration with a non-governmental organization. The ranch is owned and operated by Michael Gascon and his family. Thanks to this collaboration, Volunteer Travels can offer you a well-organized and meaningful experience.

About Mississippi

No other place is so synonymous with "the heart and soul of the true South" like Mississippi. Mississippi has raised many of the world’s most famous music artists. The flat, fertile area of Mississippi Delta and along the river in northwest is rich on cotton and here is where the blues and soul have their roots. When the cotton was king, Mississippi was the kingdom. More than 100 blues musicians and singers have started their career here. Many buildings remain and provides an insight into how the Mississippi inhabitants lived before the civil war. A walk along the streets in Natchez or Vicksberg, only a few meters from Ol´Man River, highlights the Old Souths beauty. Many successful writers has received inspiration in these areas. If you seek a fantastic adventure or an unforgettable journey, follow your senses, listen, watch and experience a journey beyond the ordinary in Mississippi where memories are made and where friends always are welcome!
