Your Role as a Volunteer
As a volunteer, you will help women become better with their use of the English language, Mathematics, economics, health, child health, family planning and other family related topics. Many of the women have their own small informal businesses and would appreciate any new ideas to help develop them.
The women and girls you will meet in this project are between 8-60 years old. The project is not strict about the roles of the volunteers and often it is up to you to decide what to do and what you would like to help with. Any form of help is appreciated, and you can develop your own methods or tasks with the help of the experienced people on the ground.
As a volunteer with Women’s Rights, you will work 6 days a week (Monday to Friday 8 hours per day and Saturdays 4 hours). If you would like to take more than a weekend to go on a trip somewhere be sure to chat and make plans with your manager about it beforehand.
The Project’s Mission
This projects works to strengthen the position of women in the community through education and enrichment of their livelihoods. Most women in rural Kenya do not get the opportunity to go to school and therefore most often fall into a society of dependence. By enabling these women to empower themselves, whether it is through reading, writing, or perhaps even speaking another language, you are working to help improve their social situation.
Our partner is located in Kenya and works on the ground with woman in the community in which you will be based. Through this partnership we have the opportunity to offer you a safe and rewarding volunteer position in Lunga Lunga.
